Effective Date: April 2025

Applies To: All FAWA-sanctioned events (local, regional, state, and national competitions)

Purpose

The Florida Amateur Wrestling Association (FAWA) is committed to providing a safe, fair, and positive environment for all athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators. This document outlines the expectations for spectator behavior to ensure events reflect the values of sportsmanship, respect, and integrity.

General Expectations

All spectators attending FAWA events must:
    •    Respect the athletes — Cheer positively, avoiding negative or demeaning comments.
    •    Respect the officials — Understand that referees and event staff are enforcing rules to the best of their abilities. Harassment or verbal abuse will not be tolerated.
    •    Respect the coaches — Allow coaches to perform their roles without interference or sideline coaching from the stands.
    •    Respect other spectators — Maintain civility toward all fans, including those supporting opposing athletes or teams.
    •    Promote sportsmanship — Be a positive role model for youth by demonstrating composure, patience, and fairness.

Prohibited Behaviors

The following actions are strictly prohibited at all FAWA events:
    •    Use of foul, abusive, or threatening language toward anyone.
    •    Confronting or arguing with officials, coaches, athletes, or other spectators.
    •    Entering the competition area or interfering with matches.
    •    Physical altercations or aggressive gestures.
    •    Use of alcohol, tobacco, vaping, or illegal substances on event premises.
    •    Disruptive behavior that detracts from the safe and fair conduct of the event.

Consequences of Misconduct

FAWA reserves the right to enforce the following measures for violations of this policy:
    •    Verbal warning issued by event staff or security.
    •    Removal from the venue for the remainder of the event.
    •    Suspension from future events if deemed necessary by the FAWA disciplinary committee.
    •    Reporting to law enforcement in cases of illegal activity or physical violence.

Photography & Video Policy

Spectators are welcome to photograph and record matches from the stands, provided they:
    •    Do not obstruct the view of others.
    •    Do not enter restricted areas.
    •    Do not use flash or large equipment that interferes with the event.

Commercial use of photos or videos without FAWA’s written permission is prohibited.

Child Supervision

Spectators bringing young children are responsible for supervising them at all times. Unattended children may be escorted to a secure area until a parent or guardian is located.

Acknowledgment

By attending a FAWA event, all spectators agree to adhere to this policy. Failure to comply may result in removal or further disciplinary action.
